Arrivals - Tree of Life. Fine Art Print. From a year spent living in a studio in the woods, on the Niagara Escarpment, located in Ontario, Canada. That experience provided me with the opportunity to take excursions into the forest on a daily basis. It was a period of time when I was able to reflect on nature, away from the busyness of urban life, during each of the four seasons of the year. This Print is an example of my perennial interest in Life Cycles. A theme that I have embraced, which weaves its way through my work. I took hundreds of photographs of nature, during my time living in this secluded woodland. One photo, in particular, was initially, a picture of a sad old tree, located deep within the forest. It was laden with new fruit. Using the motif from the 'Tree of Life' I rebuilt the image with my focus on the emerging new fruit. Multiple layers of ripened red fruit were re-created separately, with each fruit located exactly in the same position on the tree as it was in my original photograph. The tree itself, along with the remaining background, was then suppressed and treated as greyscale. In order to express the vision of new life, the re-created red fruit was then placed back on the top layer of the greyscale print. The stark contrast between the old tree with the greyscale forest background, and the introduction of the newly developed, ripened fruit provides another vision of Life Cycles and another example of the 'Tree of Life'.
